2010 Lucasville Flee Market For October

THE RENOVATION OF THE PALACE OF MADRID

probably should start where you finish: saying that this post is the second version that I write about the REMODELING OF THE PALACE OF MADRID. I rearranged several paragraphs of the original, and above all I changed some opinions in the description of the building, views that I maintain, but I prefer to hold back because they could be hasty and unfair. The result of the entry is more bland, and also more cautious. Of course, retain the first text. You never know, maybe in a few months and those views are not precipitated, resulting strictly true, my criticism tight ... and then encourage me to publish in Select.

the Communications Palace is one of the most iconic buildings of Madrid's architecture. Designed and built by twigs and JULIAN PALACIOS ANTONIO OTAMENDI between 1904 and 1917, answered that such a unique style by PALACIOS, easily referable to the historicism in force at the start of the twentieth century in the English cultural world, but with no academic performance, very proper and very plastic.

a couple of Sundays ago, I think it coincided with the opening, or at least open to the public, I was not looking to the Central Post Office (as of now it looks like Cibeles Palace ) visited, passed through the plaza, I saw that it could happen and, as I was with some time, I went, then I'm back, to revisit and take pictures. As you know, much of the building will be used (or already used: I asked and they knew me because of this) as the town hall, but the truth is that one does not see anywhere municipal offices: I guess that will be in the body that opens to the street of Alcala, which overlooking the inner courtyard, and forming the corner of Paseo del Prado Street Montalbán.

What ordinary citizens can visit the massive central body, which opens onto the Plaza de Cibeles, with its cross-shaped floor and up to 5 levels high topped with central dome which dominates the building seen from the Plaza. The space is spectacular, super and the building of OTAMENDI-PALACIOS although the set is not particularly complex: perimeter corridors and in the intermediate level walkways between them in the central area. Rehabilitation, successful, and very respectful of the original building, say the authors of the project, the team ARQUIMÁTICA. In my opinion a little too cakes, but I guess / hope the weather improves the feeling of cream pie now has everything. The first impression is in any case, very showy. Not to leave it to the final, certainly recommend a visit.

acknowledge that climbed to the lookout tower level 8: I would love for sure the view is superb (I am among those who think any high light, or air, it's worth no doubt you can always go there to climb), but the tail was daunting and I had, in one of the two occasions, neither time nor inclination to do it. Just do not quit coming up on another occasion. I went up the elevator to level 6 (where the change is made to continue to lift up to the lookout) and from there I started down the stairs. It goes without saying that the elevators are available at all levels but, whenever possible, I prefer to see a building through it, download it on foot.

Level 5 corresponds to the upper gallery that completes the interior facades, with clear references to Renaissance loggias copy both the English during our period of NEOS which we have referred to select you . Perhaps the solution close to the ambulatory glass interior is clumsy, with those boxes of carpentry as little subtle. We are at the height of the new boot patio cover, we see from the windows.

From here You can get down the stairs of one of the side towers (from inside the left: the right suspect it must be for use by the Mayor) with tiled walls with colorful ceramic pieces. At level 4 we find these gateways we were talking about earlier, with decorated glass block floor (and eye, extremely slippery: I do not comply with the rules in any way, but you know, home of the blacksmith wooden knife ...). It is worth looking at the domes covering the central circulation: are these cakes which I spoke above, but also attractive, no doubt. The exhibition areas, very empty for now.

At level 3, an anecdote: a bug in the movement of the plant. The route is not closed (no step on the front door), and the right tower ladder we have said that is not accessible, which, if the visitor comes to this plant by the left tower, complete the plant runs wants to walk down, when the end has no choice to undo all our steps. You can always use the elevator at the end of their way, of course. Option that would be very reasonable ... if the elevator stopped, and the crowded floor to be overlooking the dome, seen as they pass booth after booth-glass lets see all huddled together, and he is changing the face until he decides to recognize that there is nothing to do ( abandon all hope), let wait and retrace his steps. A minor problem and certainly timely in any event, will happen only during times of high visitor.

Level 2 is the customer service-before and now, and interpretation of the building and rehabilitation (resolved with explanatory panels that are well made) . Counters have maintained, and hosted some unique areas, each storage opal glass, very neutral to the fund, and other reading, relaxation and information to the front, very colorful, so much about me other issues seem to be successful. At level 1 (which is down from the entrance level), plus exhibition area. And on level -1, the auditorium.

It is worth looking in the windows that cover each of the three arms, most of the time. In riveted steel structure, light, bold, then, and sincere. And in the auxiliary lamps, railings, counters, etc. While not the ultimate, have their interest. Those familiar the building of the Post Office Vienna, Otto Wagner, surely remember some details of that building later reinterpreted in PALACIO PALACIOS COMMUNICATIONS: also have spoken on this blog PALACIOS relationship with the Vienna Secession . If anyone is interested, here can still see photographs of the building ...

And finally, the use of it: cultural, of course ... As I read in print (and copy as it is written by the journalist), " Of the 60,000 square foot Palais de Cibeles, 20,000 are administrative units. The additional 40,000 area exhibition area, tourist information and cultural center of Madrid.. " For now there is no comet.
